Nokia Site Solutions Enhance Power Efficiency of AirScale Deployments by Up To 30 Percent
Nokia Oyj has launched new energy-efficient site solutions for its AirScale base stations. The new solutions can reduce total energy consumption by up to 30 percent and cooling power consumption by up to 99 percent.
Espoo, Finland – Nokia Oyj unveiled an expanded portfolio of energy-efficient site solutions for its AirScale base stations in May 2023. The new outdoor-ready, pre-integrated cabinet solutions and 'zero-footprint' options can reduce the total energy consumption of base station sites by up to 30 percent.
Notably, cooling energy consumption can decrease by as much as 99 percent, as the 'zero-footprint' models leverage natural temperatures, eliminating the need for air conditioning. This significantly lowers operational costs and environmental impact while also reducing installation time and space requirements.
The updated solutions incorporate high-capacity power rectifiers and batteries, along with advanced cooling systems. Nokia's NetAct network management platform further supports energy-saving features like load shifting and solar power integration.
Radio access network energy consumption represents a substantial portion of overall mobile network power usage. As traffic grows and energy costs rise, efficiency solutions are becoming critical for operators. Nokia aims to reduce its value chain greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030.
