Nokia to Deploy Network Solutions in Telefónica's Edge Data Centers Across Spain
Nokia has been selected by Telefónica to deploy network solutions for 17 new Edge data centers throughout Spain, supporting AI and cloud services.
Espoo, Finland – Nokia Oyj has announced an agreement with Telefónica to deploy its data center networking solutions across 17 new Edge data centers in Spain. These facilities are designed to support artificial intelligence (AI), enterprise, and telco cloud services by bringing compute and storage closer to end-users.
The deployment will see Nokia exclusively responsible for providing network connectivity within and between these Edge nodes. This initiative aims to enhance service speed and reduce latency for residential, business, and public sector applications. Twelve of the 17 planned data centers are already operational, including Telefónica's Tecno-Alcalá site.
This project builds on Nokia's prior success with Telefónica, following a pilot deployment of three Edge data centers in 2024. Telefónica stated that the single-vendor approach with Nokia is intended to simplify operations and unify the network architecture.
Telefónica views this collaboration as key to its strategy for Edge Cloud and AI development. Nokia is described as a trusted partner in building secure and reliable data center networks. The initiative is expected to bolster Spain's digital infrastructure and reinforce its data sovereignty.
