Nokia to Showcase Optical Network Innovations for AI Era
Nokia will present its latest optical networking solutions designed to support the increased data demands driven by artificial intelligence and cloud services at the OFC50 conference. The company highlights efficiency and scalability for expanding data centers.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia Oyj is set to showcase its new optical networking solutions at the OFC50 conference in San Francisco, scheduled from March 30 to April 3, 2025. The presentation will focus on technologies designed to address the accelerating data traffic and capacity needs driven by cloud services and artificial intelligence (AI) workloads.
The surge in cloud-based services and AI applications is placing significant demands on data center connectivity. Nokia aims to provide solutions that enhance network scalability while simultaneously reducing power consumption. The company is introducing several new innovations to help network operators meet capacity requirements more efficiently, simplify network architectures, and improve automation.
"The solution to challenges posed by AI and cloud-based connectivity demands starts with scale, but it certainly doesn’t end there," said James Watt, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Optical Networks at Nokia. "Nokia’s expanded portfolio of optical network solutions delivers tangible network value that supports our customers’ long-term business success."
Key demonstrations will include a new Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Optical Line System optimized for data center interconnection (DCI), new pluggable X-Ponder line cards featuring 400Gb/s and 800Gb/s coherent optics, and Multi-Haul 800Gb/s coherent pluggable optics designed for longer reach. Nokia will also demonstrate 1.6Tb/s intra-data center optical solutions and quantum-safe networking capabilities.
