NORD Announces NXD tupH® Surface Treatment for Harsh Environments
NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has introduced the NXD tupH® Sealed Surface Conversion System, offering corrosion resistance and hygiene comparable to stainless steel for aluminum drive components.

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has launched the NXD tupH® Sealed Surface Conversion System, a new surface protection solution designed to enhance the durability of its aluminum drive components in extreme conditions.
The system is particularly suited for demanding industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and packaging, where equipment frequently undergoes wash-down procedures and exposure to chemicals. The NXD tupH® treatment aims to provide an alternative to stainless steel, offering similar corrosion and hygiene resistance.
The NXD tupH® process involves a chemical conversion of the aluminum housing followed by a sealing layer. This creates a non-porous, durable surface that NORD states is resistant to corrosion and chemical attack, designed to withstand repeated cleaning cycles without degradation. The company also highlights that the treatment is free from chromates and PFAS.
NORD emphasizes that the use of aluminum housings, treated with NXD tupH®, results in lighter-weight and more easily installable drive units compared to stainless steel equivalents. The inherent thermal conductivity of aluminum is also maintained for efficient heat dissipation.
The NXD tupH® system is available on a wide range of NORD products, including the DuoDrive integrated gear unit and motor, IE5+ and IE3 smooth surface motors, and various gear unit series like NORDBLOC.1 and UNICASE. The decentralized variable frequency drive NORDAC ON PURE will also be offered with this protection.
