NORD Drivesystems opens its largest automated small parts warehouse

Getriebebau NORD GmbH & Co. KG has commissioned a new automated small parts warehouse (AKL) at its Bargteheide, Germany location. With more than 70,000 storage locations, the system represents the NORD Drivesystems Group's largest automated storage facility. The expansion is expected to further reduce delivery and assembly times.

The new warehouse spans two halls, covering 6,600 square meters and 44 levels. Developed by Austria's KNAPP AG, the system features 44 shuttles capable of performing up to 900 in- and out-storage operations per hour. These shuttles handle product carriers weighing up to 50 kg with dimensions of up to 60x40 cm.

Managing Director Ullrich Küchenmeister acknowledged the efforts of all involved parties, noting that the project was completed on schedule despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and a minor flood. Employees from various NORD departments, including logistics, IT, and facility management, contributed to the warehouse's planning.

Situated within the new halls are also a narrow-aisle warehouse with 4,400 pallet spaces, as well as inbound and outbound shipping areas. Component packaging has also been relocated to this new facility. The enhanced warehouse capabilities will enable NORD to supply its customers and subsidiaries more rapidly, thereby shortening assembly times at the Bargteheide site.
