Nordea and Mastercard complete Finland's first AI agent payment
Nordea Bank Abp and Mastercard have completed the first AI-assisted online purchase and payment transaction in Finland. In the pilot, an AI agent handled both the purchase and payment based on consumer instructions.
Helsinki – Nordea Bank Abp and Mastercard have successfully executed Finland's inaugural online purchase and payment transaction facilitated by an AI agent. This pilot initiative saw an AI agent manage the entire purchasing process and payment on behalf of a consumer.
The transaction utilized Mastercard's Agent Pay technology, demonstrating how AI agents can execute purchases securely, with consumer consent, and in a verifiable manner. The purchase was made on Priceless.com, with PayOS orchestrating the payment flow.
Agentic tokens were employed during the transaction to safeguard sensitive data and ensure robust consumer verification throughout the process. Nordea emphasized that this technological approach enhances the security and smoothness of payment processes.
The initiative aligns with Nordea's broader strategy to advance digital services. The bank stated that this demonstration paves the way for how AI can assist consumers with daily decisions and purchases in the future, while prioritizing security and maintaining customer control.
