Nordea appoints Matthew Elderfield Head of Group Compliance
Nordea Bank Abp has appointed Matthew Elderfield, 50, as its new Head of Group Compliance. He will join the bank by November 9, 2016, and will also become a member of the Group Executive Management.

Helsinki – Nordea Bank Abp has appointed Matthew Elderfield, 50, as Head of Group Compliance and a member of the Group Executive Management. He is expected to join Nordea by November 9, 2016.
The appointment aims to strengthen the bank's focus on regulatory compliance. Group CEO Casper von Koskull stated that continuing to enforce a strong risk and compliance culture is key to achieving the bank's target of being best in class regarding regulatory compliance. He expressed confidence that Elderfield's extensive international experience will assist Nordea in its regulatory focus.
Elderfield joins Nordea from Lloyds Banking Group, where he served as Global Head of Compliance. His responsibilities there encompassed all business areas, including Retail, Wholesale, and Wealth, as well as the Financial Crime unit.
Prior to his role at Lloyds Banking Group, Elderfield held several senior international regulatory positions. He previously served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland, Deputy Chairman of the European Banking Authority (EBA), and a member of the Managing Board of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA).
Johan Ekwall will continue as acting Head of Group Compliance until Matthew Elderfield officially takes up his position.
