Nordea Explains Importance of Liquidity Management for Businesses

Nordea Bank Abp, the largest financial services group in the Nordics, has released an article detailing the importance of liquidity management for businesses. Particularly in uncertain economic times, maintaining sufficient cash and readily convertible assets is crucial to meet short-term obligations and preserve flexibility.

The bank emphasizes that profitability does not always equate to real-time cash flow. A company can be profitable yet lack sufficient operating cash if, for example, long payment terms tie up capital. This can hinder growth and operational continuity. Olof Stålfors, Head of Cash Management & Card Sales LC&I Norway at Nordea, notes that robust cash management provides a competitive advantage that less flexible competitors may lack.

Effective liquidity management reduces tied-up capital, accelerates cash flow generation, and lowers financing costs and financial risks. Nordea offers solutions such as Global Cash Pool and AutoFX, which combine foreign exchange automation with liquidity management. These services enable companies to free up capital and optimize fund utilization in cross-border operations.

The article also addresses the role of treasury departments. Their task is to ensure sufficient cash availability aligns with target levels, often covering one to three working capital cycles. Nordea advises companies to evaluate their cash management partners based not only on technical capabilities but also on their advisory capacity in payment, invoicing, and working capital solutions.

Nordea continuously invests in developing and automating cash management solutions across the Nordics. Businesses that master their liquidity management are better equipped to navigate global economic uncertainties and capitalize on future opportunities.
