Nordea reports progress on climate targets and ESG integration

Helsinki – Nordea Bank Abp has announced significant progress in achieving its climate targets. The bank reported a 44% reduction in financed emissions across its lending portfolio, exceeding its 2025 target and remaining on track for its 2030 commitments. Additionally, Nordea aims to issue green bonds under the EU Green Bond Standard.

The bank has also deepened its integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) risk management processes. Consequently, Nordea has exited the Equator Principles, a global voluntary framework for financial institutions to identify, assess, and manage environmental and social risks in project financing. This decision reflects the maturity of the bank's internal ESG practices.

Nordea was also the first Nordic bank to issue a green bond under the EU Green Bond Standard. The bank has also been recognized for its sustainable banking efforts, being included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices. Furthermore, Nordea has facilitated EUR 235 billion in sustainable financing.

These actions underscore Nordea's commitment to sustainable finance and combating climate change. The bank continues to support its customers in their transitions and strives to continuously enhance its responsible practices and develop sustainable financial solutions.
