Nordic Semiconductor Marks 10 Years with BBC micro:bit Education Project

Nordic Semiconductor is marking ten years of its involvement with the BBC micro:bit, an educational development board. The company's low-power wireless technology is at the core of the micro:bit, which has reportedly helped approximately 73.5 million young people in over 85 countries learn programming and digital creativity.

The initiative, driven by the Micro:bit Educational Foundation, aims to foster collaboration between industry and education. Launched in 2016, the project initially distributed one million micro:bit devices to schoolchildren across the UK. It has since become a widely used tool for introducing programming and electronics to young individuals, with the foundation setting a goal to reach 100 million young people by 2028.

Vegard Wollan, CEO of Nordic Semiconductor, highlighted the project's success in making technology accessible and engaging. He stated that interest in technology often sparks early, and the company is committed to supporting this. Nordic Semiconductor continues to supply its latest technology, such as the nRF52833 System-on-Chip, which offers Bluetooth Low Energy and edge AI capabilities with minimal power consumption.

The company's commitment extends to engaging directly with young learners. Nordic Semiconductor will participate in events like the Horten Tech Festival in Norway, where students can meet tech experts and showcase their micro:bit projects. This initiative aims to make careers in engineering and technology more appealing to the next generation.
