NORMA expands logistics operations in Kerpen
Grocery discounter NORMA has begun expanding its logistics facility in Kerpen, Germany. The investment in increased cooling and freezing capacity aims to support the company's growth.
Nuremberg/Kerpen – Grocery discounter NORMA has initiated the expansion of its logistics center in Kerpen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The project focuses on significantly increasing capacity for refrigerated and frozen goods.
The expansion will add nearly 10,000 square meters to the existing facility, bringing the total area to approximately 26,000 square meters. This enhanced capacity is designed to support the supply chain for over 200 stores in the future, a substantial increase from the 114 stores currently served from Kerpen.
The project includes the construction of a new, energy-efficient cooling logistics area and the modernization of the existing infrastructure. These upgrades aim to improve operational efficiency and sustainability. The facility will utilize environmentally friendly CO2 refrigerant technology, and a 400+ kWp solar power system will be installed on the roof. The expansion also brings frozen logistics in-house, reducing transportation distances and associated emissions.
This investment is part of NORMA's broader expansion strategy. In addition to the new cooling and freezing sections, the dry goods storage and administrative buildings will also be expanded and undergo energy-efficient renovation. The company expects the new logistics center to be operational by the end of 2027. The total investment is in the tens of millions of euros, and the expansion is expected to create approximately 15 new jobs at the Kerpen site.
