Northrop Grumman Launches Advanced Robotic Servicing Satellite
Northrop Grumman's Mission Robotic Vehicle (MRV) has launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, heading to geosynchronous orbit. The satellite is designed for a decade-long mission to service other spacecraft.

Northrop Grumman's Mission Robotic Vehicle (MRV), equipped with two robotic arms, has been launched into orbit via a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The spacecraft is en route to geosynchronous orbit to begin a planned decade-long mission focusing on satellite servicing.
The launch also carried three smaller Mission Extension Pods (MEPs), which act as independent spacecraft. All four payloads separated from the rocket approximately one hour after liftoff. The MRV and MEPs are expected to reach their final operational orbit, over 22,000 miles (36,000 kilometers) above the equator, in about a year.
Once in geosynchronous orbit, the vehicles will travel in sync with Earth's rotation. This location is populated by numerous civilian and military communications satellites, missile warning platforms, and intelligence satellites, making it a strategic position for servicing operations.
The MRV is designed to extend the life and maintain the functionality of satellites in space. Its robotic arms are capable of performing various servicing tasks, potentially including refueling and component replacement.
