Northwood Space Secures $375 Million to Expand Satellite Ground Network

Northwood Space, a California-based company focused on satellite ground station infrastructure, has secured $375 million in a Series C funding round. The financing, co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and DFJ Growth, will support the expansion of the company’s ground network and facilitate the addition of 400 new staff members across its Torrance and Washington D.C. facilities.

Launched in early 2024, Northwood provides hardware designed to bridge the data gap for satellite operators. Its core technologies, including the Prism high-throughput antenna and the Portal phased array system, aim to simplify satellite communication by reducing the complexity and cost associated with deploying ground-based infrastructure.

Industry analysts highlight that the proliferation of satellite missions has created significant demand for ground network capacity. By offering infrastructure as a service, companies like Northwood allow operators to bypass the requirement of building proprietary ground stations. CEO Bridgit Mendler confirmed the firm currently employs over 140 people as it prepares for its next phase of growth.
