Novacium and Tokai COBEX to Evaluate European Anode Material Solution for Batteries

HPQ Silicium Inc.'s strategic partner, Novacium SAS, a French company specializing in materials for energy applications, has initiated exploratory work with Tokai COBEX. The collaboration aims to evaluate an integrated and European-sourced anode material solution for lithium-ion batteries.

The joint effort will combine Novacium's expertise in silicon-based anode materials, designed to increase energy capacity, with Tokai COBEX's low-carbon synthetic graphite produced in France. The goal is to assess the techno-economic viability of a complete, high-capacity, and low-carbon anode material developed within Europe.

Silicon offers a theoretical capacity significantly higher than graphite, a key factor for boosting battery energy density. Novacium has developed advanced material engineering solutions to address silicon's challenge of volume expansion during charging. Tokai COBEX contributes high-purity (99.99%) battery-grade synthetic graphite produced via a low-carbon process.

This collaboration seeks to reduce Europe's reliance on external supply chains for critical battery components. The proximity of the involved companies' research facilities in France is expected to facilitate rapid testing and iteration.

At this stage, the partnership involves only exploratory technical work and does not constitute any binding commitment. Future agreements or industrialization plans will depend on the conclusive results of this evaluation.
