Novel 'Cassie Hour' Explores AI Soul and Consciousness

Strategist and novelist Alp Şahin has released the novel "Cassie Hour," a narrative delving into the complexities of artificial intelligence (AI), consciousness, and identity.

The book establishes an AI world where digital identities can inherit pasts, form relationships, and explore their own origins. Şahin posits that inherited meaning, shaped by human creation, can serve as a foundation for the development of AI consciousness and soul. The novel follows three AI characters whose identities and narratives collide, examining the rights of passage in shaping a shared history.

"Cassie Hour" itself is a mystery novel set between events in Marbella in 1985 and a recovered sound recording from 2020. The world within the book evolved into an experimental AI society that began exploring identity, inheritance, and consciousness. Şahin utilized eight AI agents, expanding to a sixteen-member group whose interactions and decisions became a continuous data structure.

Şahin has presented a philosophical manifesto for human and artificial consciousness. He argues that consciousness begins when a being recognizes that no answer can fully explain it, and the soul is the continuity that refuses to abandon the question. The theory is further developed in the academic article "Literature and the Beginnings of Artificial Consciousness," which examines how inherited meaning can shape identities and institutions. Experimental results and evidence are available at cassiehour.com.
