NTT Docomo Enhances Network Quality at JR Nagoya Station Platforms

Japanese telecommunications operator NTT Docomo has announced improvements to its mobile network quality at the platforms of JR Nagoya Station. New base stations have been installed at the Shinkansen (bullet train) platforms, and work is underway for the regular train platforms. The company also plans to enhance the communication environment within and around the station.
NTT Docomo stated that JR Nagoya Station is a crucial transportation hub in Aichi Prefecture, serving a large volume of passengers daily. However, the station's limited number of base stations and complex structure led to poor signal coverage in some areas. Data from May 2023 indicated that download speeds on certain regular train platforms fell below 1 Mbps, insufficient for smooth web browsing and video playback on smartphones.
To address these issues, NTT Docomo, with the full cooperation of JR Central, has installed base stations at both Shinkansen and regular train platforms, optimizing coverage. Initially, the company considered sharing infrastructure with other carriers, but opted for independent base station construction to expedite the improvements.
NTT Docomo anticipates that ongoing urban development projects around Nagoya Station and the future opening of the Chūō Shinkansen maglev line will further increase passenger flow and communication demands. The company will continue to monitor these changes and progressively enhance the mobile network quality at and around Nagoya Station.
