Nuvoton Introduces New Battery Monitoring IC

Nuvoton Technology Corporation Japan (NTCJ) announced on September 29 that it will commence sample shipments of the KA85010UA in January 2027. This is a sixth-generation, 26-cell battery monitoring integrated circuit featuring Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) functionality.

The new IC allows for quantitative assessment of a battery's internal state, enabling prediction of its remaining lifespan and early detection of anomalies. Unlike traditional EIS measurements requiring separate equipment, Nuvoton's solution integrates this capability directly onto the chip.

NTCJ's proprietary induction method reportedly reduces printed circuit board temperature increase during EIS measurements by approximately 93% compared to conventional methods. This characteristic facilitates integration into batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

The company also provides support for integrating EIS analysis algorithms into customer applications. This is intended to simplify the development of advanced battery diagnostic systems and shorten development cycles, ultimately enhancing battery safety and performance.
