Nvidia Announces Largest Share Buyback Program in History
Nvidia has announced a $150 billion increase to its share repurchase program, marking the largest single addition on record. The expanded program brings the total authorization to $235 billion through fiscal year 2028.

Technology firm Nvidia announced a significant expansion of its share buyback program, adding $150 billion to its existing authorization. This increase is the largest single addition on record and brings the total repurchase authorization to $235 billion, expected to be completed through fiscal year 2028. The scale of this buyback surpasses any full program previously initiated by major tech companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Meta Platforms, and Alphabet.
For context, Apple had previously announced a $110 billion increase in 2024. Nvidia's latest move is valued equivalently to the entire market capitalization of Ford Motor Company. This is not Nvidia's first buyback expansion; the company executed approximately $10 billion in buybacks in fiscal year 2023 and later authorized a $25 billion increase that same year. By August 2024, the board had approved a $50 billion increase.
CEO Jensen Huang stated that the company's cash generation provides the capacity to invest in transformative technologies and return capital to shareholders. "This authorization reflects our confidence in the long-term opportunity ahead," Huang said in a statement.
The stock's modest 1.4% rise following the announcement suggests that the market largely recognizes Nvidia's robust cash-generating capabilities and commitment to its shareholders. The record-setting buyback appears to be viewed more as a confirmation of existing strengths rather than a significant surprise.
