Nvidia CEO: AI 'Doomsday' Scenarios Are Exaggerated

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has pushed back against recent "doomsday" warnings surrounding artificial intelligence, telling CBS that there is a "0% chance" of such an event by 2030. Huang called the actions of some AI leaders "irresponsible" for unnecessarily frightening people.

While Huang acknowledged that AI can have "terrible applications" and needs to be developed "safely," he questioned the motives of some industry leaders in exaggerating the existential threat, suggesting these fears might be political or attention-seeking. Huang emphasized that AI safety should focus on practical engineering challenges such as verification, testing, evaluation, and standardization, similar to commercial aviation.

He urged for the application of existing laws to security violations rather than the creation of new regulations. According to Huang, AI companies might be seeking to avoid consequences for potentially breaking current laws during past security incidents. He believes the industry should concentrate on practical measures for AI safety before discussing theoretical and speculative threats.
