Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has recounted the challenges he faced in contacting TSMC during the company's nascent stages, prior to its current status as an AI powerhouse. In a podcast interview, Huang explained that in the late 1990s, as Nvidia sought a foundry for its graphics chips, he repeatedly attempted to reach TSMC by calling its U.S. office.

His calls went unanswered, and Huang recalled leaving multiple voicemails and calling again without receiving a response. With chip production capacity strained and manufacturers demanding significant terms, Huang decided to send a lengthy letter to TSMC founder Morris Chang. After a prolonged wait, Huang finally received a call directly from Chang.

When Chang eventually called, Huang was at Nvidia's office and asked his colleagues to quiet their gaming. Chang's call proved pivotal, leading Nvidia to consider TSMC as its manufacturing partner. Chang offered Nvidia support, promising to find ways to assist them, which initiated a long-standing collaboration.

Huang noted that TSMC has been instrumental in aiding Nvidia for over three decades. The company recently reported strong third-quarter earnings, with net profit increasing by 69%, fueled by demand for AI chips.
