Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has urged the artificial intelligence industry to improve its communication with local communities about data center construction. In an interview with CNBC, Huang stressed that the technology sector and data center builders must collaborate more effectively with communities to ensure acceptance for the development of AI infrastructure.

Huang suggested that the expansion of AI infrastructure can support the "re-industrialization" of the United States and potentially alleviate energy costs. He posited that significant industry investments could enhance electrical grids and energy security while simultaneously lowering national energy expenses.

Research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) indicates that data centers might even reduce electricity costs for consumers if they can shift their power consumption away from peak hours. The study suggests that average energy costs in certain regions could decrease substantially.

Despite potential benefits, concerns exist that the rapid expansion of data centers could lead to increased electricity prices. Huang warned that if the U.S. cannot expand its data center capacity, it risks falling behind in the global AI competition. He highlighted the necessity of gaining societal and business acceptance for the technology to capitalize on the economic and social opportunities it presents.
