Nvidia Denies RTX 5090 Production Halt, Cites Supply Chain Constraints

Nvidia executive Jeff Fisher has refuted rumors of the RTX 5090 graphics card being discontinued. While denying production cessation, he acknowledged current supply chain limitations affecting product availability.

Nvidia's Senior Vice President of Consumer Computing, Jeff Fisher, has officially denied rumors suggesting the discontinuation of the company's RTX 5090 graphics card. Fisher stated that the reports are inaccurate and emphasized the card's continued importance as a core product for Nvidia.

However, Fisher did acknowledge that current supply chain capacity is constrained. He indicated that Nvidia is actively working to overcome these limitations and increase the flow of products into the market. These remarks were made during an RTX Spark event in Taipei.

Speculation about the RTX 5090's production status intensified following reports from tech leakers that Nvidia might be reallocating GB202 chips, intended for the RTX 50 series, to professional RTX PRO cards. Further rumors suggested a potential launch of a 24GB VRAM version of the RTX 5080 to fill a perceived gap in the high-end gaming GPU market.

The limited availability of the RTX 5090 at some retailers, such as Micro Center in the US, had fueled these theories. Many online channels have also experienced stock shortages. However, these retail availability issues do not equate to an official discontinuation, as clarified by Nvidia's executive.

Fisher also highlighted the foundational role of Nvidia's gaming business, stating that the company's current standing would not be possible without GeForce. He noted that GeForce's development spurred advancements in CUDA technology, which in turn has laid the groundwork for the current boom in the AI market.
