Nvidia invests $1 billion in Nokia to accelerate AI-RAN and 6G development

Nvidia has announced a $1 billion investment in Nokia to foster the development of AI-native mobile network infrastructure. The partnership aims to facilitate the transition from current 5G standards toward 6G by integrating AI-based computing directly into radio access networks (AI-RAN).

Under the agreement, Nvidia will introduce its "Arc Aerial" computing platform, designed to manage the processing demands of next-generation telecommunications. Nokia plans to utilize this platform to expand its product offerings. Additionally, Dell Technologies is participating in the collaboration to provide the necessary server hardware to power these AI-driven systems.

Nokia CEO Justin Hotard described the partnership as a fundamental redesign of network architecture, intended to bring high-level intelligence from centralized data centers to the network edge. T-Mobile U.S. has already joined the effort, working to integrate the technology into its early 6G development roadmaps.

This capital infusion highlights a broader industry shift toward AI-native infrastructure. As mobile data traffic continues to grow, the industry is increasingly looking to AI to manage network efficiency and support the deployment of advanced connectivity services.
