Sources within the supply chain indicate Nvidia has informed partners of upcoming price hikes for graphics cards. Consequently, graphics card manufacturers have halted shipments and closed warehouses.
Nvidia has informed its add-in board (AIC) partners about impending price increases for graphics cards, according to channel sources reported by IT Home. While specific policy details are expected in August, the impact is already being felt across the industry.
The price adjustments affect a broad range of products, including upcoming Blackwell architecture cards with GDDR7 memory and the entire GeForce line using GDDR6 memory. Previously, price hikes were limited to flagship models like the RTX 5090.
The core reason for the price increases is attributed to higher quotes from DRAM memory suppliers for GDDR7 and GDDR6 memory to Nvidia. The cost for GDDR7 memory alone is reportedly increasing by nearly $20 per 2GB, significantly impacting manufacturing costs.
This development is linked to the escalating global demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI applications. Major memory manufacturers are shifting production capacity towards HBM, squeezing the supply and increasing prices for GDDR6 and GDDR7, which are used in consumer graphics cards.
