Nvidia plans to invest an additional $2 billion in Europe, CEO Jensen Huang announced during a visit to France. This new investment builds on the company's previous commitment of $8 billion in the region over the last year. Huang also met with French President Emmanuel Macron during his trip. The announcement comes amid increasing public discussion and concerns about artificial intelligence (AI), including risks of uncontrolled AI and the environmental impact of large data centers. European nations are actively seeking to establish safeguards and regulations for AI development. As a leading global manufacturer of AI chips, Nvidia has pledged to invest hundreds of billions of dollars worldwide to accelerate AI adoption and demand for its products. The company is also supporting open-source AI models, which offer a more accessible and customizable approach compared to proprietary systems. Nvidia is investing in four French startups: Doctolib, Genesis AI, Pigment, and Entalpic. Nvidia is a key partner for Mistral AI, a French company developing open-weight models. Nvidia also supplies Mistral with AI accelerator chips for its data centers. Huang identified physical AI, such as humanoid robots, as a significant future market for Nvidia's technology.
