Nvidia releases open-source speech-to-text model for offline processing

Nvidia has launched a free speech-to-text model capable of transcribing 40 languages, specifically optimized for recorded audio.

28 October 2026

Nvidia has introduced an open-source speech-to-text model capable of transcribing audio files across 40 languages. The tool is designed to process recorded material, positioning it for integration into transcription services for corporate meetings and medical documentation.

Unlike several current market offerings, the model does not support real-time audio transcription. This limitation maintains a clear distinction between Nvidia's tool and competitors such as ElevenLabs, which specialize in live voice synthesis and transcription.

The release signals a strategic move by Nvidia to provide foundational AI tools for offline data processing. While the technology enhances post-production transcription capabilities, it does not currently address the demand for instantaneous, live-stream voice processing.
