Nvidia tests GPU resource prioritization in latest app update

Nvidia is testing a new GPU resource management feature in its latest app, allowing users to manually prioritize foreground applications over background tasks.

5 November 2026

Nvidia has introduced a GPU-level prioritization tool in version 11.0.9.585 of the NVIDIA App, currently available to a subset of users. The feature, located in the advanced system settings, allows for the adjustment of resource allocation between foreground applications and background processes.

Users can select presets to favor active applications, with custom modes allowing for up to a 95:5 distribution ratio. The tool is designed to mitigate potential performance drops when running GPU-intensive software, such as games, alongside background tasks like AI processing or video encoding. Reports suggest that while some RTX 50-series users have access to the setting, it remains inconsistent across different hardware configurations.

Nvidia has not provided official documentation for this feature, and it is unclear if the tool will see a wider release. Technical experts note that these percentages represent priority scheduling rather than a hard limitation on total GPU utilization, and the actual impact on frame rates has yet to be independently verified.
