NYU Langone Appoints New Leaders for Orthopedic Treatment Centers

New York – NYU Langone Orthopedics has strengthened its orthopedic leadership by appointing three prominent sports medicine surgeons to direct key treatment centers. Dr. Sabrina M. Strickland, Dr. Andreas H. Gomoll, and Dr. F. Winston Gwathmey will begin their roles on October 1.

Dr. Strickland will lead the new Center for Patellofemoral Disorders, Dr. Gomoll will co-direct the Knee Preservation Center, and Dr. Gwathmey will head the Hip Preservation and Hip Arthroscopy Center. Their appointments underscore NYU Langone's commitment to providing comprehensive care for athletes and active individuals at all levels.

"Drs. Strickland, Gwathmey, and Gomoll are exceptional surgeons, researchers, and educators," said Joseph D. Zuckerman, chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Langone Health. "The expertise they each bring will be instrumental in shaping the next chapter at NYU Langone Orthopedics." NYU Langone is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation for orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report.

Dr. Strickland, with over two decades of experience from the Hospital for Special Surgery, specializes in knee cartilage repair, patellar stabilization, and joint preservation. She utilizes 3D-printed joint models to refine surgical techniques. Dr. Gwathmey is a recognized leader in hip preservation and arthroscopy, having previously established a successful hip arthroscopy and preservation program at the University of Virginia Health System. Dr. Gomoll brings extensive expertise in treating knee injuries and other joint conditions.

The new leaders bring deep knowledge that supports NYU Langone's pursuit of developing new treatments and improving patient outcomes. Their specialized skills will help the institution remain at the forefront of orthopedic care, ensuring high-quality treatment for both elite athletes and everyday active individuals.
