Oakland Tech Week expands for second year, focusing on responsible technology

The City of Oakland kicked off its second annual Oakland Tech Week on Monday, featuring over 80 diverse programs and bringing together more than 30 local organizations. The opening event, "Responsible Innovation: A Vision for Oakland's Future," centered on fostering responsible and equitable innovation designed to benefit the city's residents.

Produced by HiiiWAV, the "Culture, Code, and Community" week aims to spotlight talent development, mobilize advocacy groups, support mission-driven entrepreneurs, and advance economic development for Oakland families. Last year's event drew over 4,200 participants, and this year's programming is expected to double.

Technology, particularly artificial intelligence, is rapidly reshaping society, and Oakland aims to leverage this moment to lead in the development of responsible, equity-centered AI. Mayor Barbara Lee emphasized that technological advancement and community strength are built together, leading to local job opportunities.
