Ocoopa Hand Warmers Recalled After One Death, Hundreds of Injuries
Ocoopa rechargeable hand warmers are being recalled due to one reported death and nearly 1,500 incidents, including hundreds of burn injuries. The products were sold at major retailers like Walmart and Amazon.
Shenzhen Street Cat Technology, the importer of Ocoopa rechargeable hand warmers, has issued a recall for the products in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall follows one reported death and 1,470 customer complaints, 15 of which involved fires and 350 resulted in burn injuries. A wrongful death lawsuit filed in May alleges the devices ignited while in use, leading to a fatality.
The recall affects approximately 1.5 million hand warmers manufactured in China and sold in the United States from September 2018 through May 2026. The devices were available through Walmart, Amazon, and the Ocoopa website. The lithium-ion batteries used in the hand warmers can overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards.
Affected models include UT3053, UT3056, ZLS-118, ZLS-118S, ZLS-118D, H01, and H01(PD). Consumers can find the model number on the back of the device. Customers are urged to stop using the hand warmers immediately.
Ocoopa is offering refunds for all recalled units. To qualify for a refund, consumers must write "recalled" on the device with a permanent marker and provide photographic proof. The refund can be issued as a gift card or a direct refund to the original payment method. Due to fire risk, the hand warmers should not be disposed of in regular household trash; consumers should contact their local hazardous waste facility for proper disposal instructions.
