OCWR Hosts Free Compost Giveaway for Orange County Residents
OC Waste & Recycling (OCWR) is holding a free compost giveaway on October 3rd at three locations across Orange County. The event utilizes locally collected green waste to produce nutrient-rich compost for residents.
OC Waste & Recycling (OCWR) has announced a countywide Community Compost Giveaway for Orange County residents. The event will take place on Saturday, October 3rd, from 7:30 a.m. to noon, while supplies last, at three designated OCWR locations.
The giveaway aims to recycle green waste collected from local homes into usable compost for gardens and yards. "This giveaway brings recycling full circle: Green waste collected from Orange County homes is turned into compost and returned to residents for their yards and gardens," stated Tom Koutroulis, Director of OC Waste & Recycling. "Instead of ending up in a landfill, those materials return to our communities as compost that provides nutrients to the soil."
Free compost will be available at the Bee Canyon Greenery in Irvine, Valencia Greenery in Brea, and Capistrano Greenery in San Juan Capistrano. Residents picking up compost at the Irvine and San Juan Capistrano sites will need to bring their own containers or bags and a shovel. In Brea, pre-filled bags will be distributed, with a limit of four bags per household.
OCWR's compost is certified by the U.S. Composting Council's Seal of Testing Assurance (STA) for quality and safety. It also holds certifications from the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) and is licensed by the California Department of Food and Agriculture as Organic Input Material.
