ODVA specifies ix Industrial® as new Ethernet/IP interface
ODVA has officially specified the compact, industrially-suited ix Industrial® interface for Ethernet/IP network applications. This provides a smaller and more robust alternative to traditional RJ45 connectors for industrial use.
ODVA (Open DeviceNet Vendor Association) has officially specified the ix Industrial® interface, a compact and industrially-suited connector, for Ethernet/IP network applications. This standardization provides reference data for a significantly smaller alternative to the traditional RJ45 connector.
Ix Industrial® is already an integral part of leading industrial standards, including PROFINET, CC-Link IE TSN, FL-net, and GigE Vision. Its adoption is growing with increasing industrial automation and digitalization, enabling the design of smaller and more capable devices.
The ix Industrial® is designed to replace the RJ45 connector, which has proven too large and mechanically fragile for modern, compact industrial equipment. The new connector is approximately 75% smaller and requires only a 10 mm mounting pitch, allowing for higher port density in limited spaces. This is a significant advantage for manufacturers of industrial PCs, robot controllers, and cameras.
The interface meets high mechanical and electrical requirements, with a durability of 5,000 mating cycles and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. Electrically, it supports Cat.6A performance up to 10 Gbit/s and PoE++ for power delivery. HARTING offers a comprehensive product range, including various connection types and IP65/67-protected versions.
