OhMD launches AI workflow automation tool for healthcare providers

OhMD is transitioning its service model with the release of OhMD Outcomes, a tool designed to generate automated patient engagement workflows based on user-defined goals. Unveiled at the athenahealth Thrive 2026 conference, the platform allows healthcare organizations to describe operational objectives in plain language, which the system then executes through AI-driven voice and text agents.

The system integrates with electronic health records (EHR) to provide staff with visibility into automated patient touchpoints. If an AI agent cannot resolve a specific inquiry, the platform is designed to hand the interaction off to human staff, who can access the history of the conversation to provide continuity of care.

CEO Ethan Bechtel stated that the platform aims to shift the focus from purchasing individual software features to achieving specific operational outcomes, such as scheduling wellness visits or managing accounts receivable. By building upon existing infrastructure, the company intends to allow current clients to implement these automated workflows without replacing their existing software.

Beta access for the new platform is scheduled to open in mid-November 2026. The launch signifies a shift for the Burlington-based company from a primary focus on patient messaging toward a broader application of AI in clinical administrative coordination.
