Oil drilling platform arrives off Usedom – Deutsche Umwelthilfe demands cancellation
Canadian company Central European Petroleum (CEP) plans to explore for oil and gas off Usedom. Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) is demanding the immediate cancellation of all fossil fuel projects in the Baltic Sea.

A new oil drilling platform has arrived off the coast of Usedom in the Baltic Sea. The Canadian company Central European Petroleum (CEP) intends to explore for potential oil and gas reserves in the Wolin West license area, located just six kilometers from the German border.
The environmental organization Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) is calling for the immediate cancellation of all large-scale fossil fuel projects in the Baltic Sea. According to DUH, the platform's arrival near the German coast occurred without prior notification to German authorities, which they state is a repeat of previous actions.
DUH's federal managing director, Sascha Müller-Kraenner, stated that new drilling operations carry incalculable risks for the environment, climate, and local tourism. The organization urges the state government of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the federal government to clearly oppose the undertaking.
