Ola Electric Seeks ₹1,500 Crore in New Funding

Ola Electric, the electric vehicle manufacturer, is seeking to raise up to ₹1,500 crore (approximately $180 million) in fresh capital through equity shares or convertible securities. The company's board has approved the proposal, which is now subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.

This move comes less than three months after Ola Electric raised ₹780 crore in a previous funding round. While the specific use of the new funds has not been detailed, the timing suggests significant financial needs as the company expands into new ventures, including energy storage.

The company has faced financial pressures, with over ₹1,600 crore (approximately $193 million) in debt as of May 2026. A portion of its recent funding was allocated to debt repayment. The proposed ₹1,500 crore infusion is seen as crucial for supporting its ambitious expansion plans in the energy storage market.

Ola Electric is also implementing a turnaround strategy that includes product expansion, widening its distribution network, and enhancing cost control measures. The company has introduced a new scooter model and an energy storage solution. Furthermore, it plans to establish a network of over 500 dealerships within the next two quarters to boost sales and market reach.

Adding to recent operational changes, Chief Operating Officer Hyun Shik Park has resigned for personal reasons. Ola Electric aims to strengthen its market position and rebuild investor confidence through these financial and strategic initiatives.
