Ola Electric Unveils Three New Energy Storage Systems

Indian electric vehicle manufacturer Ola Electric has expanded its energy solutions business by launching three new battery energy storage systems (BESS). The new lineup includes a second generation of its residential system, Ola Shakti, and the Shakti Rack and Mahashakti for commercial and utility-scale applications.

The Ola Shakti Gen 2 is designed to power household appliances such as fans and freezers. It is available in two configurations: 4.6 kWh with 3 kW power, and 9.2 kWh with 6 kW power. Both offer 1.5 hours of backup power at full load and utilize the company's in-house 4680 Bharat lithium-ion cells. The 3 kW variant is priced at INR 99,000, and the 6 kW variant at approximately INR 1.75 Lakhs. Deliveries are set to begin in November 2026.

The company also introduced AC and DC rack systems for commercial and industrial customers. The Shakti AC Rack offers 73 kWh capacity and 18-50 kW inverter power, intended for three-phase AC loads. The Shakti DC is a modular battery cabinet for DC applications, with a capacity ranging from 38-77 kWh per rack. Both are expected to go on sale by March 2027.

With these new products, Ola Electric aims to boost its revenue and improve the utilization of its Gigafactory. The company's market share in the electric two-wheeler segment has faced challenges, with operating revenue declining 45% in the first quarter of FY27. The new energy storage solutions could help the company diversify its business and better leverage its in-house cell manufacturing capabilities.
