Older Pixel Watches to Lose Free Cellular Access for Safety Features
Google is ending free cellular access for certain safety features on LTE versions of the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 starting December 12. Users will need a mobile plan for features like Emergency SOS.

Google has announced that older LTE-enabled Pixel Watch models will soon lose free cellular access to key safety features. Starting December 12, users of the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 LTE versions will no longer have complimentary use of the Safety Signal service.
The Safety Signal previously enabled features such as Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, and Safety Check to operate over cellular networks without requiring a separate carrier plan. This connectivity was included as part of a Google Health Premium subscription, but the free access will cease on the specified date.
Following the end of free access, continued use of Safety Signal over a cellular network will necessitate a paid mobile plan. Google will notify existing users about this change through in-app notifications and email communications. The safety features themselves will remain functional when the watch is connected to Wi-Fi or if the user opts for a paid cellular plan.
