Olivier Dassault dies in helicopter crash at 69

Dassault Aviation has announced the passing of Olivier Dassault, aged 69, in a helicopter accident on Sunday, March 7, 2021. A lifelong aviation enthusiast, Dassault was a director of the company since 1996 and held various leadership roles within the family's business empire.

Dassault, who held engineering degrees and was involved in the company's business development, was also a keen aviator. He held piloting licenses and participated in several world speed records with Falcon aircraft. His connection to aviation was deep, including service as a commissioned officer in the Air Force reserve.

His involvement with Dassault Aviation spanned strategic positions in the 1980s and 1990s, focusing on Falcon business and civil aircraft strategy. He also served as Chairman of the Supervisory Board for the Marcel Dassault industrial group (GIMD) until 2017.

Beyond his corporate and aviation roles, Dassault was a politician, serving as a Member of Parliament for the Oise department in France. He was also known for his artistic pursuits, particularly photography, publishing several books and exhibiting his work internationally.
