Olutmylly's six-pack beer packaging shaped like a V6 engine

Finnish family brewery Olutmylly has developed a new six-pack packaging designed to resemble a V6 engine. The packaging was created in partnership with Metsä Board's packaging design team, aiming to differentiate the product in the competitive beverage market and enhance its visual appeal at retail.

The carrier is constructed from E-flute corrugated board, featuring MetsäBoard Prime WKL 125 g/m² as the top liner and MetsäBoard Natural WKL Bright 120 g/m² as the inner liner. The design intends to be both aesthetically striking and practical, allowing space for cooler packs and offering comfortable carrying. The packaging is made from paperboard, designed for reuse and recyclability.

Metsä Board's Graphic Packaging Designer, Marko Leiviskä, explained the design was inspired by a V6 engine, with the cans "popping like pistons." This serves as a playful nod to Olutmylly's customer base, potentially including motorsport enthusiasts. The goal was to rapidly develop a specific product for a targeted audience, moving from concept to prototype quickly.

Prototyping and testing took place at Metsä Board's Excellence Centre in Äänekoski. The center focuses on optimizing packaging design, materials, and recyclability to accelerate product launches and improve production efficiency. This collaboration facilitated the transformation of a bold concept into a shelf-ready product.
