Omnea Offers Employees $250K to Launch Own Startups

London-based AI software company Omnea is challenging traditional venture models with the launch of its Future Founders Fund. The initiative, in partnership with angel fund Firedrop, provides employees who have completed five years of service with an opportunity to secure $250,000 in seed funding to launch their own ventures.

The program aims to actively support employees' entrepreneurial ambitions rather than discouraging them from pursuing outside ventures. Omnea founder and CEO Ben Freeman stated that the fund provides a trusted network and support system for new entrepreneurs, moving away from the traditional taboo of pursuing side projects discreetly.

Eligible employees will pitch their business concepts in a 30-minute meeting to Freeman and Firedrop founder Pietro Invernizzi, with investment decisions made within 24 hours. Alongside capital, selected founders will receive office space, operational support, and ongoing coaching from Omnea's executive team.

The funding offers flexibility, with a guideline valuation of $10 million for the $250,000 investment (representing a 2.5% equity stake). Alternatively, founders can opt for an uncapped SAFE (Simple Agreement For Future Equity) note, deferring the final equity determination until a later funding round.

Omnea views the program as a talent acquisition and retention strategy, signaling a commitment to employees' long-term career development. Four employees have already expressed interest in participating in the program, which is nearing its first cohort of eligible employees.
