BELMONT, W.Va. – Omnis Pleasants, LLC, doing business as Pleasants Power Station, announced it has filed a voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The action is intended to facilitate restructuring negotiations among stakeholders and support a sale process for the power plant.
David Hindman, CEO of Pleasants, stated that management, along with legal counsel and advisors, believes the Chapter 11 process is the most effective path forward. The company's primary goals include achieving a full recovery for the State of West Virginia, ensuring a successful future for the Pleasants Power Station, and honoring obligations to PJM, vendors, and employees. Current management is expected to remain in place to collaborate with the State and all stakeholders.
The company has filed customary "first day motions" with the bankruptcy court. Pending court approval, these motions will enable Pleasants to continue its normal business operations. This includes meeting obligations to PJM, processing payroll, paying post-petition vendors, engaging in energy trading, and managing other upcoming expenses. The company also anticipates seeking court approval in the coming days to continue its sale process, which it expects will result in an independent third party purchasing the power station.
The Pleasants Power Station is a 1,278-megawatt coal-fired power plant that provides generation capacity to the regional market, supports grid reliability, and employs approximately 140 individuals in West Virginia. The company aims to secure the plant's continued operation through the sale process.
