One Billion Acres Campaign Launches at New York Climate Week
The global One Billion Acres campaign, aiming to accelerate the transition to regenerative agriculture, launched at New York Climate Week with an initial commitment of 66 million new acres.
New York – The global One Billion Acres campaign, focused on promoting regenerative agriculture, officially launched during New York Climate Week. The initiative announced an initial commitment of 66 million acres of farmland and rangeland to be brought under regenerative management by 2030, marking a significant start toward its ambitious goal. The launch event included filmmakers, farmers, brand leaders, and regenerative agriculture certifiers.
The campaign is inspired by the Golden Globe-winning documentary "Groundswell," which presents regenerative agriculture as a solution to climate, water, biodiversity, and human health crises. The One Billion Acres campaign seeks to unite governments, brands, farmers, investors, and consumers to accelerate this global transition.
Several prominent brands and organizations announced new commitments at the launch, including Nespresso, Maker's Mark, and Applegate. Major contributors like Grassroots Carbon and the Regenerative Organic Alliance have pledged to transition vast land areas into regenerative practices. The aim is to improve soil health, water and air quality, and enhance biodiversity and economic resilience for farmers.
Campaign leaders emphasized the need for rapid, systemic change. "This is systemic change: top down, bottom up, and middle out," stated director Rebecca Tickell, highlighting regenerative agriculture's role in offering tangible solutions to global challenges. The campaign will serve as a platform to track progress and recognize leadership in the field.
