Oneworld Airline Alliance Marks 25 Years of Operation

The Oneworld airline alliance is celebrating 25 years of operation. Launched on February 1, 1999, by founding members American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas, the alliance was established to enhance connectivity and flexibility for passengers.

Over its 25-year history, Oneworld has transported nearly nine billion customers across its member airlines, connecting people worldwide. The alliance has since grown to include 13 of the world's top airlines, with Oman Air set to join as the 14th member in 2024.

Collectively, Oneworld member airlines serve over 900 destinations in more than 170 territories. Benefits for eligible passengers include access to over 600 premium airport lounges, additional baggage allowances, and the ability to earn and redeem miles across the network.

Oneworld continues to focus on enhancing the customer experience, most recently with the opening of its first branded lounge at Seoul's Incheon Airport. The alliance has also demonstrated a commitment to sustainability by joining the IATA CO2 Connect initiative to contribute operational data for emissions calculations.
