The global airline alliance oneworld has reached a decade of operations, marking significant milestones. The alliance was initially formed by American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Canadian Airlines, and Qantas.

The global airline alliance oneworld is marking key milestones from its first decade of operation. The alliance was initially announced in September 1998 by founding members American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Canadian Airlines, and Qantas, who intended to create a unified global network.
Oneworld officially launched in February 1999, with founding members offering alliance services and benefits. Throughout its history, the alliance has strategically expanded its membership. Finnair and Iberia joined in September 1999, followed by others including Aer Lingus, LanChile (now LATAM Airlines), Japan Airlines, Malév Hungarian Airlines, and Royal Jordanian.
The alliance has also been a pioneer in technological and operational advancements. In 2002, it became the first global alliance to commit to introducing system-wide e-ticketing, a move completed by April 2005, making it the first to enable travel solely on e-tickets across its network.
Oneworld has focused on operational consolidation to improve customer experience. Significant co-location projects at hubs like Madrid and Tokyo Narita have brought member airlines together in single terminals. The alliance has also received industry recognition, including titles such as Best Airline Alliance from Business Traveller Awards and World's Leading Airline Alliance at the World Travel Awards.
