Oneworld Airline Volunteers Lead First Alliance Humanitarian Mission to South Africa
Over 50 oneworld airline staff have launched the alliance's first humanitarian mission in South Africa, focusing on poverty reduction projects in the Johannesburg area.

More than 50 volunteer staff from oneworld member airlines and the alliance's central team have commenced the alliance's first humanitarian mission, believed to be a global first for any airline alliance. The operation, named "oneworld against poverty," aims to assist charities in the Johannesburg area.
The mission is spearheaded by the Qantas Cabin Crew Team, with approximately 35 members participating. They are joined by around 25 representatives from American Airlines' Airline Ambassadors program and other oneworld member carriers. The multinational team includes staff from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Spain, the UK, and the USA.
During the week-long assignment, volunteers will focus on three projects: Nkosi's Haven, a center for individuals affected by HIV; MES New Haven for Life, providing a home for street children; and FLOC (For the Love of Children), a preschool. Activities include facility renovations, delivery of supplies, and organizing an educational day for the children.
Qantas is supporting the mission by providing ground transportation, flying in one tonne of donated goods, and offering logistical assistance. The volunteers are dedicating their annual leave and utilizing funds raised to support these initiatives. The team comprises individuals from various roles within the airlines, united by a desire to assist underprivileged communities.
