Oneworld Airlines Earn Top Honors in World Airline Awards
The oneworld airline alliance and its member carriers received multiple awards at the World Airline Awards. Cathay Pacific was named Airline of the Year.
The oneworld airline alliance saw its member airlines receive more awards than carriers in competing alliances at the recent World Airline Awards, with Cathay Pacific taking the overall "Airline of the Year" prize. The awards are based on Skytrax's extensive passenger survey.
Oneworld's eight member airlines collectively secured nine awards and three runner-up positions. In contrast, Star Alliance's 16 members received only one award, and SkyTeam's nine partners also received a single top award.
Cathay Pacific was also recognized as the Best Airline in Asia and for its First Class service. British Airways collected three awards, including Best Business Class and Best in Europe. Qantas was awarded Best Transpacific and Best in Australasia, while LAN was named Best in South America.
Separately, the oneworld alliance itself was voted the world's best airline alliance in 2004 by readers of Business Traveller magazine and in the World Travel Awards.
