Oneworld Alliance Members Commit to Fight Illegal Wildlife Trafficking

The oneworld airline alliance and all 15 of its member airlines have committed to combating illegal wildlife trafficking by signing the Buckingham Palace Declaration. This makes oneworld the first airline alliance to achieve unanimous member support for the global initiative.

Royal Jordanian President and CEO Samer Majali signed the declaration in Brussels, completing the alliance's commitment. Aviation plays a critical role in transporting illegal wildlife, and the collective action aims to close these routes.

The Buckingham Palace Declaration, launched by United for Wildlife (UfW) in 2016, brings together transport and logistics sectors to close routes exploited by traffickers. Oneworld members will strengthen policies, improve detection and reporting, and support global enforcement efforts across their network of nearly 1,000 destinations.

According to UfW, the commitment enhances the aviation sector's ability to detect and deter these crimes through collaboration with law enforcement and conservation partners. Members commit to zero tolerance, enhanced processes, staff training, and cooperation with authorities.
