Airline alliance oneworld released a compilation of 20 facts on February 5, 2020, detailing its 20-year history and current operations.
The alliance serves approximately 1,000 destinations across 170 countries and territories. Member airlines operate nearly 13,000 departures daily, with a flight taking off or landing every six seconds, 24/7.
In 2018, over 535 million customers boarded flights operated by oneworld member airlines. Over its two decades, the alliance has welcomed close to 7 billion customers.
Oneworld was launched by five founding airlines: American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Qantas, and Canadian International. It has since grown to include 13 member airlines such as Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, and Qatar Airways. A new 'oneworld connect' partnership platform has also been introduced, with Fiji Airways as its first partner.
Collectively, 225 million individuals are members of oneworld member airline loyalty programs. These members can earn and redeem mileage rewards across all alliance flights and receive benefits including lounge access, priority services, and increased baggage allowances.
