Online grocery startup Satvacart shuts down after 12 years
Indian online grocery platform Satvacart has ceased operations after 12 years, citing a lack of funding. The company's last day of business was August 28, 2026.

Online grocery platform Satvacart has officially shut down after 12 years of operation due to a lack of funding. The company’s final day of operations was August 28, 2026, and its team has been disbanded.
Founder and CEO Rahul Hari stated that while capital was received, it came in small tranches insufficient for rebuilding and growing the business at the required scale. Satvacart was in acquisition talks with two large investors for a significant investment, but these negotiations did not materialize. Further acquisition discussions with other players also failed due to the company's “profitability driven approach,” which prevented it from achieving the scale sought by potential acquirers.
Founded in 2014, Satvacart was an early entrant in India's online grocery delivery market. It initially offered milk subscription services before transitioning to an inventory-led grocery delivery model. In 2015, the company secured seed funding to expand its operations, customer base, and technology team.
Satvacart's closure follows a pattern of hyperlocal delivery startups winding down operations in India. The online grocery sector has seen intense competition, with a market shift towards quick commerce models that prioritize rapid delivery and extensive dark store networks, putting pressure on companies with different strategic focuses.
