Onninen Provides Customers With Logistics Carbon Footprint Data
Kesko's technical wholesale company, Onninen, has begun reporting its customers on emissions related to product transport and packaging in Finland. The new report helps business customers track the carbon footprint of their ordered products.
Kesko's technical wholesale division, Onninen, has introduced a report detailing emissions from its logistics operations in Finland, responding to customer demand for carbon footprint information. This initiative allows Onninen's business customers to track the environmental impact associated with the transport and packaging of products they order.
The company states that climate change mitigation is a shared goal across its value chain, involving manufacturers, Onninen as the seller, and end-users. Beyond reducing its own operational emissions, Onninen is encouraging its suppliers and customers to adopt similar climate goals.
Onninen handles approximately 12 million order lines annually, with its Hyvinkää logistics center dispatching 600,000 deliveries each year. While transport constitutes a small portion of a product's overall emissions, it is an area where Onninen can influence environmental impact through choices regarding fuel types and packaging materials.
The carbon footprint report is accessible to Finnish customers via the Onninen online store, with initial reports made available in May 2023. Customers have reportedly welcomed the data, finding it essential for their own emissions reporting and operational development. Onninen is part of K Group, which aims for carbon neutrality by 2025.
